The very first point I would like
to start with is Fee. The Fee which gets deducted on every project which
you offer. In freelancer, the amount of fees which gets deducted is less as
compare to upwork. The second point I would like to focus on is as soon as you
accept the project in freelancer the fee gets deducted then and there, whereas
in upwork it is not the case. In upwork the fees get deducted only when a
project milestone gets a release. For every milestone the fees get deducted both
for employer as well as employee so you don't have to tension about accepting
the project and whether you have completed with good quality definitely they
will charge you and they will take the fees. In this case, I would prefer upwork
as compared to freelancer but based on the amount of fee they are taking I would
prefer freelancer as compare to upwork.
The second point I would like to start with is
Plans. Any freelancer platform has its own plans which you have to
offer and you have to pay for it. Freelancers plans are less costly as
compare to upwork.
The third thing is Time
Tracker System. The time tracker system of upwork is very good as compare
to freelancer. The difference is as soon as you complete your one hour the fee
or amount of 1 hour, it goes to your upwork account directly but in freelancer it is not the case. It totally depends on the person when he has to release the
milestone or the time tracker invoice which has been generated. So there you
need to be very aware of whether you have to create a milestone for your time
based project or not. I would personally recommend you because we have faced a
lot and we have apple amount of knowledge of working with time tracker system
of freelancer. I would prefer or suggest you people to opt for milestone
getting created before hand for at-least for 2 hr or 3hr minimum to how much
the project is at-least 30% of the milestone should be created before hand for
you to be on the safer side. In this scenario of time tracking kind of project
I would prefer upwork as compare to freelancer.
The fourth point I would like to
point out is Traffic. The traffic on upwork is very less as compare to freelancer.
I am not sure about why it is so but yes when it comes to traffic and amount of
time it goes for bidding and checking the projects and bidding for them upwork
is very good as compare to freelancer. The traffic is too much and you get all
kinds of people coming in freelancer as compare to upwork. The second thing is
the bogey projects which are there. There are so many bogey projects in freelancer
as compare to upwork. People are using it for advertisement or some other kind
of stuff which they want to get people involve into, which we professional do
not want to indulge into. Upwork is very good in terms of traffic as compare to
freelancer.
The next thing is genuine
client. In upwork you get very good clients as compare to freelancer. They
are long term, love to work with you. Most professional people prefer upwork as
compare to freelancer even I prefer upwork as compare to freelancer but if you
are a new freelancer and you want to start with small plans, low budgeting
projects or you don't want to face challenges of the project then you can
definitely opt for the freelancer as compare to upwork.
The fifth point I would like to
talk about is Exam. Both the platform used to have exams recently it has stop
taking any of the exams. Considering this scenario that many people have made
it a different kind of business of paying them and getting the exams cleared
for upwork and freelancer kind of platform. So upwork fount that based on exams
or their marks the person can’t be judged and things are not going right. So
upwork stopped taking any of the exams which they use to take for any kind of
technology. It has stopped doing that but freelancer is ongoing and market is
up of people who are taking the amount from them and getting the exams cleared
for you so that you can get the projects based on exams. But frankly speaking
as per my opinion no one is looking into what kind of exam you have given.
Whether you have cleared it or not or what percentage you have attained in
those exams. Only thing what good people want done to get the project done from
you is that they check the reviews which you have on your profile. So go ahead
for good reviews and not for exams for clearing them.
The sixth thing I would like to
focus on is Connects or Bid. In upwork there is a systems knows as connects.
They give you connects for every project there are certain amount of connects
like start from 2 connects minimum and 6 connects maximum. I am little not sure
about how they allot these connects based on the projects. I think it’s based
on amount which the employer has put into and these connects are allotted like 2,
4 or 6 connects. I really don't understand the connect system of upwork and I
am not in favor of these connect system because you could chase these connects
and every connects cost you around 1$ and they go like anything. So I am really
not in favor of connect system. In this scenario freelancer is very good as
compare to upwork. It has a bidding system. Even they have made a few changes
recently to this bid system. What they have done is they give you or allot bid
count like 2 bids, 3 bids to you every hour, so you are restricted to how many
numbers of bids you can do in every hour. So you can just check those policies
which they have launched in advance and go ahead in what you are doing.
The seventh thing I would like to
focus on is Dispute. In both the platforms dispute system, whenever a person
raises a dispute whether it’s an employee of an employer-side most of the time
it goes to the employer's not to employees. I don't understand why it is so because
I think employers, as well as employees both, are equally correct and the level
of correction should be based on your work and not based on whether you are an
employer or an employee. If you have done work you should be paid if the person
has not done the work you should be paid back. I don't understand how they
judge it.
The eighth thing I would like to
focus on is the Agency. Upwork has the system of creating agency and they take a certain amount like 80$ which is going on right now from a person who wants to
create an agency. Now, what is the agency? You can Google what is agency? In a rough
way, I can tell it. Agency is something if you own a company and you want people
or freelancers to join you in your company and work as a company. In an agency
system you can use the bid of agency as well to bid for you mostly there are
few kinds of people who prefer agencies in comparison to individual freelancer, in that case, you can use agency bid as well and your bid as well so in that
case agency system is very good. If you feel it is not such kind of case and
there is nothing known as agencies or companies or something like that you are an
individual freelancer whether you are a company or an individual you are
treated as an individual freelancer. You need to make sure how you can make
your profile look like a company or a freelancer. So, in this case, I would
prefer upwork as compare to freelancer.
The last point I would like to
bring to your notice is money transfer. Upwork takes a lot of time in transferring money from their account to your account and it’s really irritating because it’s
our amount and it should be transferred as soon as possible. And the second thing
is in upwork you only deal with dollars there are no other currencies you are dealing
with. So it is quite easier. I would prefer upwork in that case. But the amount of
transfer should be fast so in that case, I would prefer freelancer as compare to
upwork.
